From the sight of fifty million gallons of crystal clear water gushing out of from the under parched lava rock that is the Mzima Springs to the Shetani lava flows, Tsavo West is a beautiful, rugged wilderness.
The Taita Hills Wildlife Conservancy derives its name from the surrounding clusters of hills and is an integral part of the Eastern Arc forests classified as an biodiversity hotspot.
The sanctuary straddles the Southern Tsavo West National Park and is an important dispersal area and migrating corridor for wildlife between Tsavo East National Park and Tsavo West National Park and making it a highly valued tourism recreational area and of ecological importance. The topography is generally mountainous that offers breath taking landscape views of the Kilimanjaro, Pare, Uluguru mountains and the clusters of Taita Hills with a seasonal river dividing the sanctuary into valleys and lowland plains.
Depart Diani Beach for Tsavo West through the Mombasa Nairobi Highway. Enter Tsavo West through Tsavo River gate and proceed on to a game viewing along the palm ringed Tsavo River home for hippos and crocodiles. Check in and have lunch at Rhino Valley Lodge. In the afternoon, visit Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary to search the rare black rhino. Dinner and overnight at Kilaguni Serena lodge / Rhino Valley Lodge.
Depart the Lodge after breakfast and proceed to the famous Mzima Springs where some 250 litres of water gush out of the Chyulu Lava flows everyday creating a scenic home to fat pods of hippos and crocodile infested pools. Drive out of Tsavo West.
Afternoon game drive is made in the Taita Hills (Salt lick) Wildlife Sanctuary famous for its large numbers of the prides of lions. Also to be seen are the elephants, buffaloes, giraffe, impala, baboon, warthog and waterbuck. Dinner and overnight at Sarova Saltlick Safari Lodge.
Early breakfast, make the final game drive as you exit the sanctuary before midday to have lunch at Lion Hill Camp/ Voi town. Proceed to Mombasa with afternoon arrival at your coastal hotel.
